THREAD: There’s a troubling pattern emerging as I try to cover a pandemic. I ask #Illinois and #Chicago public health officials questions. For some they won’t answer, I file a FOIA. @WBEZ @WBEZpolitics

This takes up taxpayer resources, but it’s important information the public should have to best understand this unprecedented time. And FOIA is the law.

I still don’t have answers to the bulk of my FOIAs. Yet I see the information I ask for revealed at press conferences.

So we know the information exists. But it lacks context. And FOIA officers are still working to get me answers.

Tx for the Qs @evgelber. Public officials appear to not be complying w/the law for some FOIAs. They also delayed getting info to the public by not answering questions, which led to FOIAs. IE: #COVID19 outbreaks in nursing homes ... @WBEZ @WBEZpolitics

There are still a lot of unanswered questions. Here’s hoping for more #transparency.
