let me take you on a journey through Comcast/Xfinity customer support.

I usually hate being that guy, but I just got lost in a time warp, and I want you all to have the same psychadellic experience I had.

On March 13th, Comcast announced it would offer unlimited data for free.
I asked Comcast (SORRY Xfinity) why my bill still showed a $50 unlimited data fee.

They offered to sell me a modem.

I admit, this threw me so much that I misunderstood the proposition for a while. They want to replace my normal unlimited data fee with a modem rental. Which. Ok?
It doesn't click for me until here that this support person is a couple months in the future, while I'm stuck in the present.

But the time dilation soon gets worse. I want to know why I'm being charged a $50 unlimited data fee, two bills after announcing the fee would be waived.
Don't worry, it will be. In the future, says support.

Yes, my bill is due in four days. But that's not future ENOUGH.
Comcast support trying to find the right branching path in time to waive a fee.
but...wait hang on, back it up. what was that last bit?

did you just say that April 5th was PRIOR to the outbreak??

even my governor managed to finally learn the word "asymptomatic" by April 2nd. Maybe they just mean the bill was generated too early to waive the fee...
I am quite rude to support by insisting that time move in a linear fashion.

Fortunately, my support rep can "see it." Some time in the future, the $50 fee will be waived. I just need to have faith that Xfinity has a plan for me and my life.
But like Thomas, who was called Didymus, I, too, must see with my own eyes.

My bill was generated "before" waiving the fee was announced on March 13th.

When was my bill generated?

April 5th.
Having now learned that, contrary to my earlier misconceptions, April 5th and March 13th actually exist in a Jeremy Bearimy kind of nebulous time...thing...I must grudgingly yield.

Will the fee ever be waived? Apparently so. Some time in late May, I will have a credit for $100.
I don't like complaining about tech support online and if any Comcast bots find this thread, I won't accept help now. You had your chance.

But anyone else who's paying for unlimited data and could use the money right now: check your bill. You might be caught in a time warp, too.
Real talk tho: Companies "waiving" fees during a crisis only matters if it actually happens DURING the crisis. I have no idea if this was a screw up or if Comcast's plan was to reimburse me later for fees it keeps charging, but this could hurt someone a lot less well off than me.
