What's in a name? It turns out a whole lot. If there was an award for best clinic name EVER, 8 docs from Sundre would walk onto the stage, say "Moose and Squirrel" drop the mic and walk away. This is a thread for Sundre, another rural medicine giant (1/x)
I grew up in Alberta, I spent time fishing and camping in Mountain View and Clearwater Counties. I came to know Sundre as a quintessential rural town - vibrant, alive, a place where people matter and relationships rule.
As a young physician, trying to be a rural teacher I had the chance to interact with Dr. Hal Irvine from Sundre - there was not a more caring physician - EVER. A Family Physician of the year winner, a man with an award named after him - The Dr. Hal Irvine Community Focus Award
The physicians in Sundre have long been focused on their community - calm, competent, intensely focused on quality and improvement, many like @Michell68714283 have had leadership roles too numerous to count
I first met @RobWarrenMD as a resident. He had done the whole be a lawyer thing, then decided to do rural family medicine. I remember him coming to my clinic to see what we had done, how we worked. One thing I can say is that Rob always asks the right questions
Of course he took what we did, improved upon it, and recruited some amazing young physicians to the community - with an intense focus on patient care, life balance and quality - their team is a family, I think they see their patients as family as well
They won @ABFamDocs ward for Patients Medical Home practice of the year, @RobWarrenMD became co-director for the rural residency program, they became one of the crown jewels of medical training - everyone wants to go there to train
This group was one of the first to raise the alarm about impacts to rural health care - I watched a facebook live event and could not focus on the words, because I saw the faces of these amazing docs - looks of grief, pain, disillusionment on their faces
If you don't believe me watch the facebook live events on their page - it is like watching a family being torn apart, watching a decade of work slip away in a heartbeat, and while raising the alarm to their MLA they received rhetoric and shallow promises
@YourAlberta @shandro if you cannot make it right in Sundre, you cannot make it right anywhere - these are leaders in rural health care reform, some of our very best telling you we are in trouble
@RobWarrenMD @CreweCarly @Michell68714283 @markdizzle @ItsDaniDiz1 @alanna_bowie I will not forget how you live to make the lives of those around you better, thank you for everything you have done and continue to do #ableg #RuralMatters #ruralgeneralism @djillk1 @SRPCanada
