Equity members earn health care through weeks worked within a given year. Due to theater closures around the country, tens of thousands of theatre artists stand to lose access to healthcare. Congress must pass the Worker Health Coverage Protection Act.
This bill provides coverage for the full cost of the often-expensive COBRA premiums for workers who normally receive coverage through their job, but have lost work.
Arts are a huge economic driver in cities and towns across the country; it is important that the theatrical workforce stays safe and healthy.
With your help, we can let Congress know that passing this Act is important, that it helps bridge the gap for artists out of work through no fault of their own and will help the entire economy when it is safe to go back to work.
Did you know that for a typical night out at the theater, each attendee spends an additional $31.47 beyond admission? That money supports local businesses, restaurants and even babysitters. That is 2.3 million jobs nationwide.
