The Trump Administration is using the Coronavirus Pandemic as a cover for violating the human rights of immigration community. Trump’s executive order is not meant to protect Americans. It’s meant to spread racism and xenophobia. https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-to-temporarily-halt-immigration-into-the-u-s-amid-coronavirus-crisis-11587436960
The foundation and “purpose” of this order is to protect Americans and slow the spread. However, an immigrant (regardless of legal status) is no more likely to infect an American than another American.
If the Administration were actually serious about slowing the spread he would not be getting ready to reopen the economy when thousands of people are dying within our borders every day. Immigrants are not the problem here, and they never have been. Hatred and racism is the issue.
Racial injustice during this pandemic is real and it’s alive. I urge you to pay attention to the communities around you that are being oppressed by the Trump Administration and it’s supporters. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/04/10/4-reasons-coronavirus-is-hitting-black-communities-so-hard/
Americans and immigrants across the country are having their rights stolen—you may not be one of those Americans, but chances are you know somebody that is. As Audre Lorde once said, “I am not free while every woman is unfree, even if her shackles are different than my own.”
Oh, and “Your silence will not protect you.”
