Today the UK Equality Minister announced her three key priorities. One priority was attacking the rights and safety of trans children like my daughter. Co-opting the language of child protection to directly harm trans kids. It makes me sick and I will not stay quiet. 1/12 https://twitter.com/ellenfromnowon/status/1252977597656510466
The Minister claims trans children need protecting from having equality or rights or healthcare until they reach 18. No Liz, they need protecting from bigots like you. 2/12
My daughter is young. She is at primary school. She is trans. She is happy & thriving, enjoying her childhood. The key threat to her wellbeing is the UK’s toxic anti trans agenda, with bigoted efforts to remove basic rights, now championed by the Minister for Equality 3/13
The Minister claims trans youth are unable to consent to healthcare. That children do not have rights. Affirmative healthcare is integral to wellbeing for many trans adolescents. Affirmative healthcare is endorsed by leading paediatric health organisations across the world 4/13
Another of the Equality Minister’s main priorities is an upcoming international LGBT conference, originally scheduled for May and now postponed until later in the year. It is themed as ‘Safe To Be Me’. 5/13
‘Safe to Be Me’ is the motto our Minister is proudly promoting. But the UK is not a safe place for trans children. The UK Government has failed trans people at every turn. This latest bigotry specifically targets trans children, makes them less safe here in the UK 6/13
Trans communities are under attack in the UK. Our government has made rolling back existing rights for trans children a priority. We need some international solidarity. 7/13
To LGBT advocates reading this from outside of the UK – Please show trans kids in the UK some solidarity. Please step up and speak up for us. Please join us in protesting the UK’s bigotry towards trans children at the upcoming ‘Safe to Be Me’ Conference. 8/13
The UK government hosting a global conference on LGBT rights, at the same time as actively extending discrimination towards trans children, needs to be called out loudly. Hardly anyone in the UK will speak up. We need our friends from other countries 9/13
In the UK families like mine never protest publicly about anti-trans children discrimination because we are too weak in numbers, too afraid of our hostile media, too isolated and vulnerable. 10/13
Please stand up for us during this international conference and make sure the UK and the world hears loud and clear that trans children matter. 11/13
In the UK we are exhausted & losing hope. Please can our brothers, sisters & siblings from across the world consider how you can show solidarity to trans kids in the UK at the UK hosted conference on global LGBT rights. Please think how you can speak loudly for trans kids. 12/13
Solidarity. Justice. Equality. Safety.

For all of us. For trans children.

Speak up for trans kids.
