Fish is better-than-usual in Slave. Albuquerque (a favorite cover of mine) perfectly conveys the "maybe we got too big for our own good, but we might just pull this off" pathos I imbue upon late 1.0 Trey. Coincidentally, the crowd goes wild for another cheesecake reference.

As a Reba jam devotee, I'm happy to report this version holds its weight. This version is up there with 12-15 & 7-18 as one of the best of the year (which admittedly is not a banner year for Reba). Axilla delivers a big energy jolt and has another cheesecake lyric.

Uncle Pen precedes a strong & protracted Bowie. How the band musters the energy to perform at a high level at 3-something in the morning is beyond me. Lest you bristle at My Soul's 13:56 length, know that 6 minutes is cheesecake crowd chatter with Harpua begging. LOL.

Drowned is rote but the After Midnight Reprise is a top jam & feels Type II from the jump. Mike scores points for originality & Fish is out front as another rhythmic groove builds. Trey & Page are afforded the freedom to roam & the delicate Fender Rhodes finish is superb.

Horse>Silent before an entertaining bit of banter in Bittersweet that mercifully does not involve cheesecake. Trey shouts out Pittsburgh, then Michigan, and then asks if any South Dakota fans are present? Any Arkansas? I love it.

I dig this 4:00 a.m. Piper, which peels off the standard shredding halfway through to revisit the After Midnight Reprise groove. Mike & Fish are perky! A nice transition to Free before a gimmicky stretch of Lawn Boy, HYHU>Love You>HYHU. Can you blame them at this point?!?

Roses Are Free is a top jam of the night for many folks. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but given the time of night, this half hour is just about perfect. Once again, rhythmic Mike is in control through 15:00 before he and Page team up to create some brief cacophony.

Page plays grand ascending & descending patterns from 16-19 minutes. Full-band, heads-down, atonal shuffling gets increasingly out there beyond 25:00. This sounds like what I was worried the rumored Halloween '18 cover of The Residents would be like. Roses! Get weird!

Bug, 2001, Wading, and Meatstick wrap up the literal concert of the century. Holy hell. The boys from Burlington pulled it off! I ranked my favorite jams of the night at the start of this thread, but I want to wrap up be giving Fishman the MVP award. He's a beast all night.

Mike is right in Fish's rear-view mirror as the boss of the night, and his ability to rhythmically steer the ship as jams emerged (R&R, C&P, Quadrophonic Toppling, After Midnight Reprise, Roses) is beyond clutch.

Trey and Page get all the credit in the world for driving the Melt and DWD, and both played exceptionally well all night. There are no weak links in this band. Their imagination is the only limit to their potential. How lucky are we that Big Cypress happened?

If it's been a long time since you've heard this show, dig in. There's literally something for everyone. A sincere thanks to everyone who's read my 1999 Phish show reviews on Twitter. They're all collected in this spreadsheet from @wattznext. Cheers, all!
