Throughout this pandemic I have been very impressed with, and grateful for, Dr. Strang. That still remains true. However, as someone who has done outreach work with LTC facilities in NS - including Northwood - I call bullshit on his statements in today's press conference.

LTC facilities across our province are understaffed and underfunded. Many times, existing staff are not adequately trained (note: I have the utmost respect for LTC workers, my issue is not with them, it's with the higher-ups and the gov, so please don't get it twisted).

Conditions are often absolutely awful for residents, and that's all the time, not just during this pandemic. I say that both as someone who has, as I said, done outreach work with LTC facilities, AND as someone whose grandmother lived at Northwood before she died.

I do not believe that Northwood was prepared, and I do not believe the NSGEU's claims were just fear mongering. Older adults and disabled/chronically ill people in NS have been tossed aside for years. Right now is no different.
