/7 So, I hope everyone knows that @Energous ( $WATT ) is bullshit. If not, let me break it down for you. Their tech is garbage. Every few quarters they release some BS to pump the stock. @LiesNStartupPR has broken it down more comprehensively here: https://liesandstartuppr.blogspot.com/search/label/energous">https://liesandstartuppr.blogspot.com/search/la...
/7 For this particular release, all it says is that $WATT has received "FCC certification under Part 18" for their & #39;new& #39; charging transmitter. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/energous-receives-fcc-certification-groundbreaking-100000069.html">https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ener... The part 18 they are referring to is FCC 47 CFR Part 18 Subpart C. This is where the output power limits
/7 are defined. Output power limits are to prevent the equipment from exceeding electromagnetic SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) limits, interfering with other devices, etc. All electronic equipment is subject to this. No big deal. The more interesting info is what we find
/7 in the $WATT FCC report. In here we see that it will only charge inside the wireless charging zone. And the charging zone is 40 cm. 40cm = 15.7 inches. Not very far. And that it can only charge one client at a time. Reading further into the report, we then see that
/7 we see that the MAXIMUM power transferred is only 5.5 inches away from the transmitter!! On top of that, if a human is in the keep-out zone, it disconnects. The keep out zone is 20 cm, so half of the charging zone.
/7 So no charging a watch on your wrist or phone in your pocket. Not very useful for what $WATT calls & #39;charging at a distance& #39;. In summary, this & #39;news& #39; is just rehashed, useless garbage that Energous has released before. Nothing new or exciting here and there is no reason any
/7 OEM would ever consider using this "technology". This is before you even start to look at the tiny amount of power delivered which equates to astronomical charging times.
