The most important type of crude oil used in Europe is Brent Crude, named after the North Sea oilfield where it is extracted.
Brent Crude is a particularly light crude oil which is carried from the North Sea to the Sullom Voe Terminal on Mainland, Shetland by an underwater pipeline. From there, the crude oil is transported by tanker.
Brent is a type of oil that is extracted mainly from the North Sea. It sets the benchmark in European markets.

Brent crude is a light oil, with an API gravity of 38.06 °, although not as much as West Texas Intermediate (WTI), with an API of 39.6 ° 1.
It contains approximately 0.39% sulfur, thus being considered sweet oil. Brent is ideal for the production of gasoline. It is usually refined in North Western European countries, but when market prices are low enough to export it, the area's refineries and the US east coast.
USA they also process it. This type of oil is one of the poorest regarding its calorific value.

Brent is settled in cash, unlike the WTI that is physically settled, this becomes relevant after the economic crisis of 2020,
when for the first time the price of said index fell to negative. In Brent, their futures trade in money with the possibility of extending them to the next futures contract, so the pressure before the expiration of the terms is different for both.
Oil production from Europe, Africa and the Middle East affected for sale at the price set by the barrel of brent crude oil, that is, it marks a recommended or standard price for 78% of the different varieties of world crude oil, which they take as reference.
The barrel of brent (42 US gallons, about 159 liters) is listed on the London International Petroleum Exchange ( #IPE) using options and futures. The currency unit in which it is listed is the USD.
#BrentOil was originally traded on the London International Petroleum Exchange, but since 2005 it has been traded on the IntercontinentalExchange ( #ICE) under the symbol $B and on the New York Mercantile Exchange ( #NYMEX) under the symbol $BZ.
A contract is equal to 1000 barrels (159 m³). Contracts are quoted in US dollars. Each lost or earned tick equals $10.

In recent times, the price of a barrel of brent has remained around $1 less than the WTI, and approx. $1 more than OPEC crude.

Brent crude oil gets its name from the Brent deposit in the North Sea, which in turn was named after the Shell company custom of naming aquatic birds in their deposits in alphabetical order.
The name of the deposit and the crude oil corresponds to the Brent Goose.

In turn, the name brent lent its letters to name the five characteristic geological formations of the deposits of the North Sea:

Broom
Rannoch
Etive
Ness
Tarbert
