Running a small biz is hard. It’s even harder during a global pandemic. But what makes it the worse is a customer who is so spoiled that the word “no” doesn’t apply to them. We made a special exception to help out a lady during the 1st week of government mandated lock down. 1/9
She called in hysterics that a loved one got a new essential worker job & needed a pair of shoes. Couldn’t wait for us to send them . So we organized a contactless pickup for her. All seemingly went smoothly. About a week later she called & the shoes didn’t work. 2/9
We politely explained to her that returning wasn’t a problem. She just needed to mail them back to us. This was unacceptable to her , she wanted to return them in person. We explained to her that this wasn’t allowed as we are closed at order of the governor. She didn’t care. 3/9
Fast forward 2 weeks. The shoes haven’t been returned & this morning we got a chargeback notification that she has disputed her credit card transaction. She told them her purchase was “unsatisfactory” . They sided with her & she got her money back & kept the shoes. 4/9
So we lose twice, we’re not mad about it as this has been the normal for awhile now . We are just frustrated. Consumers have been led to believe that returning an item is there God given right no matter what the circumstance or the condition of said item. 5/9
We’ll be fine , hopefully we’ll be able to ride out this mess & come out the other side with just some slightly scratches & bruised. We fear other small biz won’t be as lucky . Pile on customers like the one talked about in this thread & it makes it harder for all of us . 6/9
It’s time we start teaching kids a few things. Maybe it can start as a class taught in all grade schools. Maybe it’s a Golden Rule/Manners/human decency/simple economics course. It would have five basic principles 7/9
A. If you don’t have have anything nice to say then don’t say anything. B. Keep your hands to yourself.
C. Nothing in life is free.
D. You get what you pay for.
E. please & thank you go a long way !
It seems many of us have forgotten these basics. 8/9

Our hope is that after all of this we’ll still be here to serve our customers like we’ve been doing for the past 23 years. We hope other small biz survive as well. Hopefully all of us are able to find a greater appreciation for the things that are important to us 9/9 end of rant
