Leadership development is an important topic for anyone in any stage of their scientific career. It& #39;s necessary to develop leadership and management skills for productivity and project organization. Leadership creates vision for the future and gets a group aligned to that vision.
This year, I am lucky to be participating in the @SfNtweets Leadership Development Program. Monthly distance learning sessions with my 15 fellow participants cover self awareness, inclusion, communication, teamwork, advocacy, and more. #Jefftakeover
I have learned so much about how to be an effective leader from small projects to strategic planning of a lab budget. I encourage any neuroscience students to apply for this program through @SfNtweets and others to seek out leadership training. #JeffTakeover #Neuroleaders
As future PIs, industry leaders, teachers, and science communicators we can use these skills to become effective initiators of change in our respective fields. #JeffTakeover
In addition, this program has opened me up to #networking opportunities with peers and faculty I would have never met otherwise such as @maddiehray, @ohambiguity, and @AlyciaPhD.
#scicomm, leadership development, and networking are all skills you can work on from the comfort of your couch/bed/desk in any form of media (podcasts, LinkedIn, #AcademicTwitter) so if your WFH routine could use a shakeup maybe work on your non-research science skills!
