At this point, what we need from Howard regarding housing, a thread:
1. A total re-selection of the housing process. After the changes detailed further on in this thread, everyone will need to re-select that to ensure better housing for all students. With this...
2. Priority housing should only be given to HONORS STUDENTS and ATHLETES. There’s no reason why regular students should be giving priority housing at random. This only further complicates the process and creates extra issues. Keep priority priority.
3. Allow rising sophomores to select Annex. Regardless of the Covid-19 situation, Howard first and foremost is a university and should accommodate the students who pay to attend first. Plan for them, and move the HUH staff currently staying in Annex accordingly.
4. ALL 2nd year students who were accepted with the c/o 2023 should be able to pick from CHS or Annex, regardless of transfer credits. Towers needs to stay upperclassman focused instead of being filled with students who’d rather stay with the peers they were accepted with anyway.
5. Actually implement gender-inclusive housing. I’ve heard that Howard has not included gender-inclusive housing in the housing process this year, and LGBTQ+ folks are being placed in accommodations that may not be optimal for their identity. That needs to be fixed ASAP
6. If there is a need, implement triples in Quad/CHN. Due to the amount of students returning to campus next year, we absolutely can’t afford to have freshman in Annex or CHS due to class overflow. HU23 and HU22 were able to manage with triples, I don’t see why 24 can’t as well.
7. Consider the upperclassmen and only consider having anyone in HU23 in Towers once both Annex and CHS have reached capacity. Both dorms have enough space to hold HU23, no sophomore should be in Towers unless there’s absolutely no more space available.
That’s all the needs I can think of, if you have anymore feel free to reply under this thread with them. @HUSAssociation @ResLifeAtHoward @PhDTash @150Bison
