My TL is full of painfully middle-class people getting aroused by the fact that Labour now have another stereotypical establishment politician as leader

This is why Labour won’t win; the party is now for middle-class moderates, not working-class socialists
The country now have a choice between former barrister Sir Keir Starmer or ex-Etonian and Oxbridge alumni Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson

Parliament is where the upper middle-class elite go to hang out
By “we have a proper opposition again” what these middle-class centrists actually mean is:

“Keir Starmer is a man I can relate to because we come from the same socio-economic background, and he was a barrister which means he is sensible”
Labour had a big middle class vibe under Blair, but the difference was is that traditional Labour voters still voted Labour

If you want the voters lost to the Tories in 2019 to come back picking someone who was a Remainer and as establishment as Johnson is not the way to do it
Of course the middle-class centrists won’t see this because they’re so far-removed from the reality on the ground

Rarely do they venture out of their privileged circles - they’re too busy doing white collar jobs, running the media, or seeing politics as a career
In case you haven’t noticed, I’m in a bad mood today and all these people getting gassed about Keir Starmer are doing my head in
I say all this as someone who grew up on a council estate, then went to Cambridge & witnessed how far removed from reality this class of people are

The majority I met didn’t have friends outside of their class, which was deeply alienating and demonstrative of Parliament issues
So many of them saw state schools as this dangerous or wild place - it was truly bizarre

And most of the people there that weren’t privately educated were educated at top grammar schools, so equally (and sometimes more) middle class than the private ones
These people were more culturally familiar with skiing than they were manual labour - and I am not exaggerating
For the record, I know Corbyn comes from a middle-class background

Nowhere did I say he wasn’t

And the party was still painfully middle-class under Corbyn, the ardent Remainers obsessed with demonising working class Brexit voters were a prime example
And no where did I say that Starmer didn’t come from a humble background

My point is that Labour need to be more relatable to the working classes - I think it’s a tragedy that Angela Rayner didn’t run for leader, because she’s exactly what Labour needed
Muting this thread because I really dont have the energy to engage anymore - I’m having a crappy day

Feel free to disagree with me, feel free to agree with me - that’s up to you
