1. Papers. Take opportunities to lead and contribute to publications! This is one way to get your name and your research out there. It also helps your PI and project teams. There are so many papers out there waiting to be written and PIs don't have time to write them all!

papers con't...So jump in! Help out! Be a team player and offer to lead a paper or analysis. Is that not part of your job description? Have you asked your PI if this is possible? You might surprise your PI with your initiative....

last thought on papers....not confident in your abilities, esp as person just starting? Know when to ask for help. Writing papers is a team sport and your PI should be willing to help you out. Consider a writing class at some point. There are a lot of resources out there.
