A MESSAGE FROM IU CINEMA: We hope you are staying healthy, hopeful & well. We are now several weeks into social distancing & isolation.

WE MISS YOU! We missed you after the first week & the feeling is much stronger now.

All of us at IU Cinema miss seeing you ...

(1/12)
... shaking your hands, sharing stories, movie ideas, well wishes, laughter & good cheer.

We hope you'll watch our video message to you as part of the @IUAHCouncil's Messages from A&H Leaders series ...

So far, IU Cinema staff & our families remain healthy. We are very proud of @IndianaUniv for its leadership & the thoughtful, good care we have seen for our students, faculty & staff.

This is an unprecedented moment in our lifetimes, one which will have long-lasting ...

(3/12)
... & even devastating impact on many of us, our families, our communities, our businesses & our educational & cultural institutions. IU Cinema vows to come back stronger & be more inspired than ever

WE WILL BE HERE FOR YOU!

The arts help us intellectually, physically & emotionally cope w/the ever-changing trials of the human condition.

This moment is one of those.

They can help us laugh, help us cry, lets us get angry & sometimes find a path to resolution ...

(5/12)
... They also fill us w/questions & make us yearn for answers. Cinema is the newest of the major art forms, the Seventh Art & perhaps the most accessible.

Movies also have the uncanny ability to build empathy. They can transcend borders, cultures, languages ...

(6/12)
... class divides & even generations. They help us find universal truths & feel connected as citizens of a shared planet.

The late film critic @ebertchicago called movies “empathy machines,” also stating that “empathy is the most essential quality of civilization” ...

(7/12)
... There are many things we need right now to deal w/this moment & empathy is surely one of those.

IU Cinema vows to keep some form of communal film experience going during these trying & isolating times.

From now until the end of our planned spring programming ...

(8/12)
... we are offering a chance to engage w/IU Cinema each week by presenting a mix of virtual screenings & interactive programs so we can continue to talk about movies & stay connected to the film community you helped build.

(9/12)
We understand these events do not replace the experience of being together, but again, this is an unprecedented moment.

We are looking forward to the day when we can see you face-to-face again.

(10/12)
On behalf of all of us here at IU Cinema, stay healthy, positive & well & please offer support to others where you can.

Let’s continue to build the “empathy machine.”

❤️📽️❤️
