everyone's talking about the catra's redemption, but here's one you're absolutely missing:
glimmer's redemption (a thread)
glimmer's redemption (a thread)
okayy, here we go. so i know a great part of the fandom is focusing on catra, and how she'll have her redemption arc now that she has hit rock bottom. but with recent... um... events... i thought it would be good to talk about this too, because i haven't seen any1 do it yet
i think it's certainly easier to see the need of a redemption arc for catra because she's the "antagonist" in the show. but that doesn't mean glimmer can't have one, or doesn't need one as well. in fact, if i have learned anything by watching spop this long, is that there are no-
limitations for the characters in order to reach their goals, even if they have to walk over their allies and friends. this is one thing glimmer and catra have in common, especially in s4, and it wasn't determined by their alignment as many believe. being on the "good side"-
didn't stop glimmer from deadass using her own kingdom as bait to lure catra's troops, even if it was for a "good cause". but that doesn't mean she's on the "bad side" either. i think of it as a grey area. most of the characters are either on the white or black spectrum, but -
lately glimmer has been in between. as to why she did it, she said she thought it was "the best chance at defeating the horde once and for all". but not even glimmer was sure this would work. and we have to think of her whole development through the series. she used to be -
very shielded from the world by her mother, because she was afraid glimmer would get hurt just like micah. and even if glimmer later showed that she wanted to be freer, deep inside she had grown used to it. we do see her be more independent in the later seasons but that was a -
very important aspect of her character: that she didn't want to be a typical princess, and she wanted to help make etheria better by fighting the horde. now that angella is gone and glimmer becomes queen, she not only has to deal with the whole kingdom, but with herself as well-
because this is the first time she is truly alone. or at least that's how it feels to her. sure, she has bow and adora to keep her company while she grieves, but they aren't angella. and she can't fall into depression right now, the kingdom needs her leadership in these times -
of desperation. so she puts herself in second place and focuses all of her attention in that. but she hasn't healed yet. she misses her mom, she needs her advice, even if she's a young adult. the way they both got separated was so abrupt that she didn't have the chance to -
say goodbye properly and move on. so she keeps the pain to herself and tries to do the best for the kingdom. but when that isn't enough, she enters a state of crisis and denial, and that is even worsened when adora and bow show their disagreement with her plan. she doesn't know -
what to do, and now that her two best friends are not even supporting her, she has her own type of catra breakdown and decides that she would follow along with the h.o.e.p. plan no matter what. this of course, doesn't end very well. and that's where she mets catra. they both -
failed to their soldiers, their friends turned their backs on them, and they are both alone and troubled with themselves. they aren't different from each other in the end.
okay so yes, i rambled a lot LMAO i just didn't know how to put everything in words so i'll try to do a little summary?
- glimmer has always been shielded from everything, overprotected, and even if she denies it, it's something she had taken for granted for several years.

- she is GRIEVING. her mother is gone. but she doesn't even get to grieve properly so she enters a state of denial and changes her focus to war
-she is still growing as a person, and for the first time, as an individual. the circumstances are no bueno, but she tries her best

so yeah. she made mistakes thru the season but ppl ignore evr she went thru b4 that. i might edit this thread later, it's messy. i hope we get to see glitra comforting each other bc they really need it + in the end, they are the only ppl who could understand each other as of rn.
also, final reminder.
spop isn't about becoming who you're told you should be, it's about becoming who you really are. that applies for both sides of the story.
