We've spent years fighting the state in protecting local democracy through @LocalProgress Texas when it comes to issues like Paid Sick Leave and raising wages for workers. The State fights with the Fed about State Rights then limits the governing power of local municipalities.
I am deeply concerned that Governors across the South are reopening their States next month knowing that local government shelter in place orders will be overruled and not be given the proper resources from funding to PPE to protect their constituents.
This is a political play and move to reassert power that serves a small population of people/elites economically in the long run while leaving and genocidal impact that hurts Black people and those are most forgotten ie. people incarcerated, unhoused, immune-compromised folks.
Our resistance is staying home, but I am thinking of hourly wage workers who will be forced to return to work because the State will stop unemployment checks for those whose employers have reopened their doors. They will be forced to work and risk their and their families' lives
Keep in mind, Dallas Co. just extended our Shelter In Place order to May 15th. 2 weeks beyond the State's order.

Are folks considering how we protect folks who will be forced to return to work as early as next month for the sake of making money since the State won't help them?
