The Pelosi Ice Cream thing wasn’t, of course, about ice cream, and it wasn’t full blown Marie Antoinette but it captured the tonal aloofness of dem leadership & a key fact about their responses to the economy collapsing, which is Schumer and Pelosi never appear MAD about anything
Pelosi & Schumer’s tone is procedural updates, boring partisan jabs & patronizing ‘you dont understand how the game works’ head-patting. It’s devoid of any class politics or rage or urgency. 1/3rd of the economy evaporated overnight & it sounds like just another day at the office
after the crash in 2008 there was a vaguely populist demo that could have been won over by dems. Instead it morphed into cynicism or, a small percentage, was channeled into astroturf Tea Party. Again, we see some of this rage being channeled into "open up the economy" rhetoric.
What counter-rage are dems offering? What counter-narrative of help is being presented as an alternative to braving the plague and "going back to work"? There isn& #39;t any. No turn to social democracy, no pounding the table demanding $2000 a month. Nothing. It& #39;s a total moral void.
The Politics of Rage should be the sole domaine of our nominally progressive party, instead we get faux-class war from the right and from dems insipid process handwringing and a press conference every week or so w/ no sense of what their ideological aims are beyond beating Trump
