As we at @INLatinoDems work through our efforts to educate our community on the new Primary Election ABS-By Mail application form for the June 2nd Primary, it should be noted the current form has the incorrect Primary Election deadlines and dates. A thread. 1/10
I have reached out to the Indiana Election Division. Below are some of the questions asked and the answers given as we navigate this issue together: 2/10
1-Will you issue an advisory to county clerks to specifically ask them to accept any outdated forms in Spanish that have been submitted?

The 3/25/20 Indiana Election Division Order No. 2020-37 advised counties that all forms dated for the 5/5/20, election are acceptable. 3/10
2- What date will the corrected Spanish applications be made available to applicants?

The Division will have these available on the new absentee portal being launched. They said hopefully next week. 4/10
3- What is the current process for Spanish translation of applications?

The Spanish form is being updated by a member of #INSoS staff. All forms go through management review. I have followed up to ask if members of the review team are proficient en Español. 5/10
I should also note that the Spanish form ALSO still include a section asking for a reason one needs to vote absentee. This has been stricken from the English form.

There have been 27 days since the order came out. 6/10
I realize this challenging era, but this is an actively incorrect form we are asking the community to fill out. Our standard must be better. It makes it hard for us to educate voters when our instructions say one thing & the form we ask them to fill out says another. 7/10
It is also misleading. I'm also concerned that after the original 4/23 deadline that is indicated on the Spanish form, some will think they have not met the deadline & not move forward with their application. 8/10
If you've filled out the original form, IT IS STILL VALID & we expect that the patchwork network of 94 county clerks all adhere to these guidelines. Check in on the status of your application after you send it. We will also heavily promote the updated form when available 9/10
Please reach out to myself and @INLatinoDems with questions you may have or issues that you face. We will continue to share information as we receive it and advocate for voter equity and appropriate language access protocol from the State of Indiana. 10/10
To be more clear, the SPANISH form has the incorrect date as highlighted in the image.
