So, there was a vicious spat yesterday between the Progressive Sanghi and Trad Sanghi circles on the issue of LGBT rights. It left me fuming, anxious and f*cked up my already f*cked sleep cycle. Thread: I’ll be answering all the genuine questions people have regarding LGB issues https://twitter.com/TheSquind/status/1252711990008537089
Q: Same sex couples can’t procreate and hence, shouldn’t be allowed to marry.
A: By that logic, women above the age of 50 shouldn’t be allowed to marry either. Even, infertile couples can’t procreate. And, if you think the sole purpose of marriage is procreation, and not love...
and lifelong partnership, I feel so sorry for your spouse.

Q: But why can’t you just settle in a live-in relationship,
rather than whining about same-sex marriage?
A: Because, social stigma and discrimination against same sex couples is rampant in society.
Openly gay couples may not get houses for rent, they may get evicted from their parental homes and may get ostracised by the society. Legalising same sex unions legitimises their existence and their place in the society. Marriage is not just about rituals and ceremonies.
A married couple gets rights and benefits that other non-married couples do not. Eg
1. TAX BENEFITS https://www.dnaindia.com/personal-finance/report-married-couple-can-jointly-save-more-tax-2659220
2.INHERITANCE RIGHTS: spouse has right to inheritance. If there's no will, a spouse has inheritance rights when the other spouse dies intestate
http://3.HOSPITAL  VISITATION RIGHTS
If you're married, you can have the status as next-of-kin for hospital visits, which grants you the ability to make medical decisions in the event your spouse becomes sick or disabled. Not to forget about Joint Health Insurances as well.
4.PENSION AFTER DEATH OF SPOUSE
If a pensioner dies and getting pension for his/her Govt. service, then his/her spouse will get full pension for a period of seven years. Later on the spouse will get Family pension which is approximately 60 % till he/she is alive.
5. ADOPTION RIGHTS:discussed later in thread
Married couples enjoy the symbolic and emotional effects of entering into a legal union w/ their partners before friends and family, or enjoy the legal security of having one document to confirm the legal status of their relationship
Q: Same-sex couples will be bad parents. They shouldn’t be allowed to adopt or have children via Assisted reproductive technology(ART)
A: In 2016,a Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill was introduced and passed by Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, proposing to permit..
...only Indian heterosexual couples married for at least five years with infertility problems to access altruistic or unpaid surrogacy and thereby banning commercial surrogacy.
I FIRMLY STAND BY THIS. Women’s wombs are not items to be commercialised.
Moreover, the poor treatment of surrogates after the delivery of the baby, makes it all the more important that commercial surrogacy should be banned, and hence GAY COUPLES SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN ACCESS TO ART.
Gay rights activists usually make their case by stating that acceptance of homosexuality will help stabilise the population explosion. But, they then contradict themselves by whining about surrogacy rights. No child deserves to be born fatherless or motherless.
If that happens due to death of the parent, it’s unfortunate, but the law should not be framed in such a way that the child never knows his/her true origins.
ADOPTION RIGHTS
There are numerous studies showing that children raised by same sex couples perform equally well as children raised by straight couples. But, I will not base my argument on these studies, because they are subjective and are susceptible to the biases of the people..
who are funding these studies. I have only one argument: INDIA ALLOWS ADOPTION BY SINGLE PARENTS. Please give me ONE logic why one parent will be better than two parents, irrespective of their gender. If gay couples don’t get adoption rights, single people shouldn’t too.
Q: Same sex marriage will destroy the institution of marriage.
A: Honey, if you want to be the saviour of marriage, why not be a Twitter gangsta against divorces? How is inclusion of one, collapse of the other?
At a time when millenials are refusing to get married and divorce rates are increasing, here is a community which is literally DYING to get married lol.
Q: I am a right-winger. This is too progressive for me to accept.
A: As of 2017, a draft of a Uniform Civil Code that would legalise same-sex marriage nationwide has been proposed. Even if same sex marriage does not get legalised when UCC passes, the enactment of UCC will make the future legalisation of same sex marriage a cakewalk.
Q: But gay clubs and pride parades will come up and they will destroy the fabric of the society,.
A: Not every gay person is an empty headed, superficial drama queen. Get rid of your prejudices please. I FULLY agree, pride culture is diagonally against Indian culture.
That is why I am asking for your support: let us form a movement which revolves around rights and dignity and not eccentric fashion and obsession with pronouns.
The LW is desperate to take over the LGBT community and turn it into some kind of anarchist cult, where every sort of paraphilia is seen as normal.
If not today, then probably decades from now gay marriage will be legalised in India: that has been the trend all over the world, so will it be in India. The real question is: Are you ready to be on the right side of history?
