Just some background information: I work in a healthcare facility. There are cases of COVID-19 from residents and employees. My duty was to make sure employees clocked-in, filled out a questionnaire, take their temperature, and give them a mask for work.
Other than employees, I was still in contact with Doctors, other health care workers, and some visitors who entered the building. And I made sure to take their tempt and give them the PPE they needed.
More background information: My mother is a Nursing assistant in the same health care facility I work at. So she has been exposed to patients with COVID-19, and possibly employees that may be asymptotic.
APRIL 2ND: I went to work, clocked in, filled out the questionnaire, and they took my temperature. The thermometer read 100.4 and I was sent home with a fever. I called my doctor right away and was advised to just take Tylenol and rest for the next couple of days.
I started to feel better within two days and the fever disappeared. April 3rd or 4th, my mother developed sinusitis but quickly recovered. APRIL 6th, my father started feeling very weak, fever, trouble breathing, loss of appetite.
APRIL 8: I woke up and felt VERY WEAK, I was coughing A LOT, I couldn't breathe well, chest pain, lost my sense of taste and smell.
APRIL 9 - EASTER: My symptoms got even WORST. It was so hard to talk to my parents. I couldn't sleep at night. The chest pain was so intense. I couldn't breathe at all, and I would be gasping for air. I thought I was going to pass out with the lack of oxygen. My mother was
scared for my life. At this moment, I thought I was going to die since I couldn't breathe at all. I called my Doctor the Monday after Easter, and I was diagnosed with ALLERGIES. I suffer from seasonal allergies but I know this wasn't just allergies.
I was dx w/ allergies, I was not allowed to be tested for COVID-19. I cried so much, I live with my grandmother and I didn't want to see her get infected. The same Monday, my dad was sent to the hospital bc his symptoms grew worst. He was negative for COVID-19 but has pneumonia
I started feeling better the week of Easter. Meanwhile, my grandmother was getting progressively worst. I had to call 911 TWICE since she kept falling because of how weak she's gotten and SOB. It was a decision not to take her to the ER, bc of her compromised immune system and
we wouldn't be able to see her for a long time. When I called 911, paramedics said she was fine, but just to keep her comfortable. Towards the end of the week, my grandma's symptoms grew worst and it was so hard for her to breathe.
APRIL 18: The day my grandma died. She was on the floor and I was doing CPR until the police and paramedics came. She was pronounced dead at the scene. I hardly spoke to her that week because I was so sick and didn't want her to get infected. But it was too late.
I forgot to add April 17 I was tested for COVID-19, I basically had to beg my doctor for a prescription over the phone. The good news is my dad is coming home today and is feeling much better.
I just want to say: PLEASE STAY AT HOME, STOP HANGING OUT WITH YOUR FRIENDS, ONLY GO OUT FOR ESSENTIAL GOODS. YOU COULD BE ASMYPOTMIC AND A CARRIER AND COULD BE SPREADING THE VIRUS. PEOPLES LIVES ARE AT RISK AND MY FATHER IS AT RISK NOW FOR COVID-19 BC OF ME.
I would like to add: My mother got tested and is waiting for her results. My grandma died peacefully at our home. She was a fighter for the past week. She was such a strong woman.
