In Orthodox Judaism, men aren& #39;t allowed to hear women sing ("kol isha" - "a woman& #39;s voice"). The Talmud classifies this as "ervah" - literally "nakedness."

Can anyone enlighten me with an explanation that isn& #39;t rooted in sexism, misogyny, & oppression of women? I& #39;m listening.
To me, it& #39;s yet another law that oppresses women, inhibiting their access to self-expression, creativity, joy, & meaning. And a gross objectification of the female voice.

It should surprise no-one that the #1 reason women report for leaving Orthodox Judaism is gender inequality.
As predicted, here we learn what we didn& #39;t know previously - women are oppressed & silenced because they& #39;re actually more special than men.
