Dear RWBY Critics,
If you've been claiming as of late that Monty Oum based Yang from RWBY off of or payed an homage to Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 JUST because a) he was a fan of Final Fantasy & b) the general public LOVES to compare the two characters...

-Saying that Monty was a fan of Final Fantasy is NOT proof
-Saying that Yang & Tifa share certain traits is NOT proof
Those are ASSUMPTIONS. Pointing to say, a Dead Fantasy video DOES prove that Monty was into Final Fantasy & pointing to say, the Yang vs Tifa Death Battle...

...DOES prove they get compared a lot.
But UNLESS you can, (or are WILLING to, for that matter) provide a source, a link, ANYTHING where Monty Oum DIRECTLY confirmed from HIS MOUTH that Yang's character was SPECIFICALLY inspired by Tifa, then you are talking out of your ass!

I am HIGHLY uninterested in what Miles Luna said about Tifa's character design because I'd much, MUCH rather call out this "controversy" for what it is:
This whole "discussion" is designed purely to slander Miles Luna's name & tarnish RWBY's reputation and NOTHING ELSE.

I've been involved with RWBY discourse since right after the Red trailer came out and this marks the 4th year, the 4th hiatus IN A ROW where a bunch of people took whatever Miles, Kerry or the voice cast said out-of-context & weaponized it against them & those who defend them.
And this whole, "Yang & Tifa", nonsense is far from the first time people were SO convinced as to what they claimed about RWBY's creative process.
It's a confirmation bias problem. People take a conception that makes enough sense in their heads & DON'T question otherwise.

Don't believe me? Look at past cases where Monty had debunked who certain characters were assumed to be based off of:

I can easily make such assumptions too, btw.
Take Kuro from Kurokami, an anime adaption of the manhwa, Black God. She does boxing-style fighting, has long hair, red eyes and beats-up a a guy w. a baseball bat in the 1st ep, like how Yang beat up Junior.

Another example, Birdy from Birdy the Mighty Decode. An alien Galactic Federation Investigator w. superhuman strength, a cheeky attitude and can be reckless (she destroys a teenage boy's body in the 1st ep). And she has long hair & is on the busty side, similar to Yang.
To top off that 2nd example, Monty actually admitted he liked that anime on Twitter once.

Like others have, I can make the SAME comparisons & the SAME claims but with different characters. That doesn't mean I've proved anything. https://twitter.com/montyoum/status/351227889435410434

The issue here is NOT whether Monty COULD'VE taken inspiration from Tifa.
Rather, this is about whenever you make a claim, do you want someone like me to take you seriously or not? If the answer is 'yes', then DO YOUR GODDAMN RESEARCH FIRST!!! It's NOT complicated!

And if you DARE give me that, "but in the end, we don't know what Monty really wanted", crap…
NO SHIT we won't know every detail that Monty wanted out of RWBY, especially since the story itself is still developing & ongoing!
That does NOT mean you can't try to find out what you can, nor does that validate making baseless assumptions designed to poison the well!

I get that some of you want to respect the guy's name however way you believe you are, but you're also making weak excuses not to do your research when making rebuttals like that.
In the end, the outcome of this topic can end in one of a few ways:
In the end, the outcome of this topic can end in one of a few ways:
1) If you're making assumptions without bothering to provide proof, then be humble about it & admit it
2) If you CAN prove what you claim & you know something that I don't, then show me
3) If you're too proud to do either & just want to waste my time, then we're DONE talking
2) If you CAN prove what you claim & you know something that I don't, then show me
3) If you're too proud to do either & just want to waste my time, then we're DONE talking
It's gotten to the point where I'm not even sure if RWBY discourse is physically capable of maturing past these kinds of topics & discussions.
A guy CAN hope, but there's only so much hope AND tolerance that I have left to spare.

Oh and side note, those tweets I linked to were part of the "Monty Oum debunking comparisons" argument I made as part of one of my Monty Oum Vision videos that I made last year:
Ok, despite the last video being meant as a period in this thread of tweets, I do want to make a quick case of someone who actually DID miss the mark.
I’m not responding to said-person directly because one quick scroll down his tweets spelled out whether he’s even worth responding to. BUT, he made two errors:
1) His claim as to who tarnished RWBY’s reputation is debatable but surprise, surprise, he does NOTHING to back it up.

2) More importantly, let’s say he WAS somehow correct about what he claimed. It hardly nullifies everything I stated.
Hell, the argument itself is at best, tangentially related to what I was talking about. It has NOTHING to do with needing to be credible when making claims.
