1/6 We know @CityofSanDiego is considering rolling out a Slow Streets initiative inspired by cities across the country. In the face of a public health crisis, we need bold action so people can commute safely, enjoy outdoor space, and keep their distance. https://grist.org/beacon/cities-give-car-free-streets-a-shot/">https://grist.org/beacon/ci...
2/6 Implementation is needed in every district. This should be accessible to all of the diverse communities across our city. Making streets safer always requires an equitable approach; even more so considering the disproportionate impacts of this crisis. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/19/us/coronavirus-civil-rights.html">https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/1...
3/6 Easy fix: pedestrian beg buttons MUST be switched on automatically. It& #39;s absurd that walkers should be expected to press possibly-infected buttons to cross streets. Stopping the spread is far more important than vehicles saving seconds at stoplights. https://fox5sandiego.com/news/local-news/la-mesa-to-reprogram-crossing-signals-in-effort-to-curb-covid-19-spread/">https://fox5sandiego.com/news/loca...
4/6 This is a huge opportunity for the @CityofSanDiego to demonstrate its commitment to the CAP and active transportation. We& #39;re nowhere close to meeting our mode share targets, and now walkers and bikers need access to safer commutes, while maintaining social distancing.
