Today's Art Lesson: Keith Allen Haring. Lessons in Quarantine.

You have probably seen this art style throughout your life. Its chunky lines and bright colors are very eye catching and make great tye-dye shirts I found at Target. But do you know the history of the artist?
This art style first started appearing in New York subways, it was very eye catching and poignant. Much like todays 'Banksy', more of these pieces starting showing up around the city. It wasnt shortly after that the man behind the art was found: Keith Harring. He was publicly
Praised by artists, and shamed by the anti-graffiti movement. But it was a piece he created that started a new movement: awareness for the Crack epidemic. This murual 'Crack is Wack' created the term we still use today against/awareness of the drug. From here, Keiths art
would only continue to inspire and start another awareness for another debilitating issue: AIDS. It was as rampant as Crack, and the 80s today we find were defined by those two issues. Keith created more pieces to create awarness for the AIDS epidemic. It was his art that
Brought awareness to issues normally associated with those of color and/or LGBT, which unfortunately, were mostly ignored by society. The issues he expressed through his art were heard around the world. He brought awareness to these issues, and to this day still inspire.
Unfortunately, Keith had died in the 1990s due to the AIDS epidemic. His work made significant contributions in the fields of LGBT rights and awarness of the Crack epidemic. He is now inducted on the National LGBTQ Wall of Honor. His art still is as poignant today as it was then.
So thus concludes today's lesson in quarantine. Let is enjoy the art style that Keith gave to us, but also recall what he fought for during his life.
