1/ It’s #EarthDay dear Earthlings!

One of the ways you can celebrate is by donating to an organization that works to defend our precious planet.

EDGI is one of those organizations! 😊

Here’s our story… https://secure.actblue.com/donate/edgi_earthday
2/ EDGI formed in November 2016 out of concerns about the possibility that vital environmental data and other information from government websites might be erased or altered, and because of a general concern for the future of the EPA and other environmental agencies.
3/ We began as a small group of concerned researchers and have since grown to a large network of folks from many walks of life — including social, physical, and life scientists; librarians and archivists; open-access technology proponents; journalists and activists; and more.
4/ In the wake of the 2016 election, we organized the first attempt to systematically monitor censorship of fed. websites, contributing to the most systematic archive to date of the fed. agencies’ online resources prior to a presidential transition.
5/ Since then we’ve expanded our website monitoring and archiving work, interviewed 150 government agency personnel and retirees, and have continued resisting the dismantling of federal environmental laws, data, and agencies — primarily through the work of committed volunteers.
6/ Our work has yielded major reports, academic articles, public comments, Op-Ed and analysis pieces for the public, and is referenced in over 250 news articles, including from top national and international outlets.

You can read our publications here: https://envirodatagov.org/publications/
7/ Because of this tireless work, we’ve become known as the preeminent group monitoring government websites in the US, and we’re sought out by environmental journalists and Congress to advise on issues of environmental policy and data governance.
8/ Here is one of our members, @ChrisCSellers, testifying last year before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations hearing “EPA’s Enforcement Program: Taking the Environmental Cop Off the Beat.”
9/ We’ve also begun hosting and co-hosting online environmental justice events, such as our Environmental Data Justice: Vision and Values event, and the EJxYouth Summit, where young leaders discussed social justice, environmental issues, and the power of youth activism.
10/ This work wouldn’t be possible without grants and donations from people like you, and we hope that on this Earth Day you’ll consider donating to help us continue it!

Happy #EarthDay Earthlings! Thank you for listening.
