The Office of Digital Humanities is pleased to be accepting applications for NEH CARES: Cultural Organizations, an emergency relief program to assist institutions and organizations working in the humanities that have been affected by the coronavirus.

NEH CARES: Cultural Organizations offers up to $300,000 for:
museums,
libraries and archives
historic sites
independent research institutions
professional organizations
colleges and universities
other cultural orgs

Funding is for short-term activities that emphasize retaining or hiring humanities staff.
All NEH divisions are accepting applications. Applicants should select the division that best aligns with their proposed activities.

DH CARES examples:
A university requests support to pay adjunct or contingent faculty members and staff to help faculty convert to online teaching.

DH CARES examples:
A museum requests support to train staff to engage with visitors virtually, including developing online virtual tours or transcribing digital collections to make the collections more broadly available to the general public.

DH CARES examples:
An institution working on humanities research requiring technical equipment that cannot be accessed remotely requests support for staff to refocus on data cleaning and software documentation.

NEH CARES applications will be peer reviewed according to the following criteria:
Retaining threatened jobs & qualifications of personnel.
The importance of the proposed humanities activities and feasibility of the proposal.
The reasonableness of the budget.
