People often ask me about my writing routine. I don’t write every day. I write in spurts. I go long stretches of time just reading & engaging with art. Then I write in a frenzy. I have zero things to say right now besides tirades against Trump.
For me writing is a often about being still, being quiet, listening. It’s ok not to produce constantly. Don’t let people make you feel like you have to be a writing factory. That’s not what art is about, in my opinion.
I have to ask myself if my ideas are fresh, interesting, & necessary. If they are not, I know I have to be quiet. It’s ok to be quiet. You won’t be forgotten. And if you are, who cares? Let the work come when it needs to come.
Do what works for you, but don’t feel like you always have to be relevant. There are things I don’t know shit about & that’s ok. I find this humility to be important to my work & life, to know that I don’t have to have answers at all times. Right now I have none.
Some days I’m just fucking sad about the world & I have to just be with that sadness.
And as always, fuck Trump. Namaste.
