Company Z recently emailed me, stating that they& #39;d like to collaborate with me as an influencer with the intent of marketing their products. It& #39;s a big company and I was excited, & #39;cause I knew I& #39;d get a huge chunk if I& #39;d work with them. Thread
We agreed on a date that we& #39;d hold a meeting to come up with strategies on how our collaboration would be done.
On the D day, I showed up for the meeting. Some lady directed me to a board room, where the meeting was. They introduced themselves , and it was my turn to do so,
I gave a brief introduction about myself and my manager took over. She took them through my portfolio and briefed them on the value I& #39;d bring to the company via the collaboration.
After she finished, one of them said,..........
Long story short, we turned down the deal and as hard as the pill was, we walked away. I haven& #39;t been in the creative industry for long but from the experiences I& #39;ve had, I can give my two cents.https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🙂" title="Slightly smiling face" aria-label="Emoji: Slightly smiling face">
This is to the creatives, influencers or anyone who works on a contract basis, don& #39;t work with companies that can not afford you. Companies that don& #39;t want to understand what it takes to create your content, the effort, time and sacrifice you put in your work...
Know your worth and your value, because if you don& #39;t, you will be manipulated, used and they& #39;ll end up giving you peanuts. You are a brand, carry yourself as one! Stand your ground and refuse to settle for less
If a company approaches you or vice versa, here are some tips on how to go about it.
Make sure the company does not deny you creative freedom or breach your copyright. Always have them look at your portfolio first, so that they can know the value you& #39;re bringing to their company.
Have a rate card, with realistic figures, to avoid fumbling or giving a vague amount. If you have a management team that you pay, state that, similarly, if you are a one man team state that too.
Whatever figure you give, (however high or low) companies will always try to lure you into reducing it, so be confident. i.e During a board meeting DO NOT fumble, else you& #39;ll seem desperate or easy to manipulate.
If you charge 300k, let your posture communicate 300k, let your words and your tone communicate the same. You& #39;d be shocked that these guys actually do read your non-verbal cues, which actually speak more than your words
