Today makes it a month since I first tweeted about making free sanitizers and sensitizing people across different states in Nigeria about the COVID19 pandemic but in reality, from material procurement, to everyday production, movement during lockdown, distribution phase...itā€™s
...been a yearā€™s worth journey...
Iā€™ve been through hell and back..
I have had accidents, peeling hands, slided into DMs to beg for as low as #25, begged food trucks to take me to the production site, carried sanitizer bottles wit @OZeblon on my head for miles...
I have met wonderful Nigerians more than I will ever in my life in the space of 30 days, met few bad eggs but Nigerians are wonderful. I have had people criticized the project #OperationSanitize, been called a fraud, had my account suspended, been humiliated, been sick, depressed
I have looked haggard, smiled, cried, slept out on the streets, at the factory, because at times, there was no way to go home during the lockdown (no car), fought with drivers šŸ¤£,
had people throw back sanitizer in my face that they only wanted food, met wonderful police men, soldiers that aided my movements, met bad ones, got mugged, transited 54 kilometers a day to and fro everyday, asked myself why I ever tweeted to start the project #OperationSanitize
From Lagos, to Oyo, to Osun, to Ondo, to Benue, to Abuja, to Ogun, with Ebonyi, EDO and Enugu sanitizers still in the mix, I have fought with group members, shouted at people, lol, overslept, and thought why am I doing this? Like who send me message?ā˜¹ļø
But the smiles on faces
and the lives being impacted have negated the anticipation or expectation of any rewards whatsoever.
I have had people asked me if I am trying to run for a political office or source for a job, or get a political appointment with the project
Some people even tagged me a rich kid saying only rich people do these kind of things.
Heads up: I am from a poor home. But being poor shouldnā€™t stifle or stop you from helping those you can. You can also #TakeResponsibility with the little you have.
A Wonderful trailer driver during the lockdown helping me to get to my destination. He taught me that goodness doesnā€™t reside in people with money. Even if you donā€™t have money, there is a way you can help people.
I wasnā€™t just gonna stay home during the lockdown & watch people suffer from ignorance cause that in Nigeria, might kill us faster than the virus. I determined to help as many as I can & currently over 10,000 hand sanitizers have been produced and distributed with more in the mix
Influencers like @EmpressDaisy_ @mhizgoldbedding @iefamharris @temmyponle @morallistt @iamwillsteel often helped out as times as I would be the only one producing and packaging
He wasnā€™t mandated to help but he is the face of my project. A professor in Chemistry @OCHEPA working at the ethanol industry
Heā€™d make sure we produce more than even necessary everyday so that we can package and distribute, even with his normal work load.
I have had volunteers not turn up, disappointments here and there. At the beginning of the project, over 2,000 people volunteered from Twitter to help in the process but from day 2, only two to three turned up until I was the only one left with @OZeblon .
Many have rubbished the project, someone even asked me if itā€™s sanitizers/sensitization that people wants to eat. Some said it was a waste of money and time. Others asked me to plainly stop. My family is not even aware of the project, they just wonder if I am safe šŸ˜‚
I just feel the need to share my experience and say ā€œDonā€™t ever start any humanity project in your lifeā€!

Lol, just kidding. If you start with God, heā€™ll definitely be there throughout. Iā€™ve experienced his goodness on this project and by his will, we shall overcome the virusšŸ’Æ
It wouldnā€™t be possible without a professional graphic designer @officialdanzor who did most of the colorful graphic designs for free. Not even a dime. Wonderful individual!
