This topic, which I've raised on Twitter from time to time, may seem dry and bureaucratic—which is why it doesn't get much coverage. But it's the most important issue of the Trump administration. It's the reason I don't believe the republic can survive several more years of this. https://twitter.com/waltshaub/status/1252955322735624192
The last line of defense as our constitutional and legal safeguards crumble is a federal workforce that will disobey illegal orders, report wrongdoing, oppose corruption and carry out their duties in accordance with law, as opposed to the wishes of a corrupt authoritarian ruler.
When that line falls, there is nobody left to enforce the laws, report the wrongdoing or constrain authoritarian overreach. The corruption and power abuses would multiply exponentially if the government were populated by 2.1 million Bill Barrs, Mike Pompeos and Stephen Millers.
It's annoying that fart jokes will get 20,000 likes but my tweets sounding the alarm about the greatest threat to the republic don't do as well because the topic sounds dry.
