This is horrifying. The merit system, which replaced the spoils system, is the most important ethics safeguard in the federal government. It keeps the 2.1 million person federal workforce loyal to the rule of law and the American people. It also keeps the government functional. Imagine if every Dr. Fauci, every VA surgeon, every rocket scientist and every special agent was replaced with an Ivanka, a Jared or a Scott Pruitt. The United States would be a smoldering crater inside of a year.
