The purpose of the establishment of the akharas by Adi Shankaracharya was a permanent army for protection of religion, in which Naga sadhus were ready. He was instructed by the #Shankaracharya of the four main benches.

The Naga Sadhu used to receive arms training with Hatha Yoga.

The appointment of Naga Sadhus used to remain under the protection of the temple such as # Ayodhya Ram Mandir, Mathura Krishnamandir, Kashi Vishveshwaramandir, Purijagannath Temple etc.
