How many lives were saved & accidents prevented because there've been ZERO taxi-motos on the roads for 3+ weeks? Ask any local health worker about the true cost this deadly profession has on Kigali. Yes, DEADLY. One doctor told me taxi-moto riders are nicknamed "organ donors"…😔
When the topic of banning taxi-motos (not motorcycles) came up before, many said, "no, it creates employment!" Drug dealing also creates employment... but at great risk of those employed in that sector and their clientelle. You hear me?
Truth is most of people are willing to risk someone's life and limb just to have a cheap, fast way to get around town.
Yes, inner-city transport should be quick & affordable, but the health of our transport service providers should also take high priority.
& we haven't even talked about the number of unregistered riders who had taken over the city in recent years. No licence & no accountability.
As a result of this lockdown period, I hope many of the taxi-moto riders continue to get employed in our now booming delivery service industry, and for the rest - perhaps other safer forms of work.

Okay, rant over. Bye.
