Something I discussed with the #CatBoyParty recently is that I genuinely am close to the point when I would choose Nin'li for my favourite Final Fantasy character.
On the one hand, that feels ridiculous and conceited. On other, it makes total sense. https://twitter.com/WillFletchUK/status/1252851532883587074

I am so invested in Nin'li as a character and I care deeply about him. To me that's astonishing for a character that I created myself.
But it shows the power of role-playing. And it's unsurprising really, given that I've spent nearly 800 hours playing #FinalFantasyXIV as him.

I think it demonstrates the awesome power for us to create our own stories within games.
Nin'li is a character I've created from the ground up. Sure, I've followed him through a set story in terms of the main scenario content, but he's so much more than that.

He has a character that I've imbued him with. He dresses and acts in certain ways. And I guess there's an extent to which that's an extension of myself.
But there's also an element of utter fantasy and escapism within that.

One of my colleagues said to me recently that they like to imagine I'd dress like Nin'li 'if I had the confidence for that'.
I'm not entirely sure that's true. But through him I can certainly wear things and express my style in a way that I never would in real life.

I don't really know how to finish this thread now that I've started. Except to say that games are amazing.
They offer an escape from our own world. They let us express ourselves, be creative and build relationships with characters through the stories we create.
That is amazing.

Oh, and obviously, one final note. Everyone should consider giving #FinalFantasyXIV a try.
It is honestly one of the deepest and richest gaming experiences I've ever had. And I really can't imagine my life without XIV as a part of it now.
