Imagine if Biden campaigned on House Dems mounting a real opposition, passing single-issue bills—money for JUST tests, or PPE, or hospitals or direct payments. Force the Senate to say “we oppose funding virus tests”

Guess what Biden isn’t doing
What the Dem-lead House isnt doing https://twitter.com/shaunking/status/1252922873481748480
As of yesterday afternoon, @AOC was the only member to not get suckered into voting for yet another giveaway to oligarchs without the below (on the promise of “it’ll be in the next one”). Maybe she’ll embrace a single-issue bill approach as described above https://twitter.com/jstein_wapo/status/1252675581117939719?s=21 https://twitter.com/jstein_wapo/status/1252675581117939719
Starting a list here of things that should be single-issue bills. Enough of this tying corporate funds to food stamps in huge packages. They’re too dissimilar.

1. Boxes of masks to every resident. If they don’t exist, compel their manufacture https://twitter.com/muckrakery/status/1252937634269315072?s=21 https://twitter.com/muckrakery/status/1252937634269315072
2. Money for states and cities. These bodies are the lifelines of hospitals to get PPE. They are the organizations that keep open school cafeterias so the children who experience poverty—20%+ of all kids—still get to eat. And states & cities can’t print money. Don’t let them fail
3. Money for SNAP. Have you seen those massive lines of cars, 10,000 cars long, waiting for food boxes? If they had SNAP they would have gone to a normal store. (To say nothing of those who don’t have cars for the line.) We’re talking Great Depression #’s and length of food lines
4. Boosting the robustness of systems to apply for/maintain benefits. It is a HORROR STORY if you have to call every day—often several times a day—for weeks to get through to apply for benefits. All the while your pantry is dwindling. Imagine having kids & having that experience
5. As I mentioned above... Tests.
6. PPE for healthcare workers
7. Aid for hospitals
8. Recurring direct payments to individuals. Sure this one is controversial. But propose something to the Senate that’s so reasonable that you can make an oppo ad if they oppose it.
9. Things that Mr. Stein noted: “Elections security,” which in this case likely means 100% mailed-ballot voting
10. More oversight on the corporate bailout
11. Rent freeze for those affected. (Mortgages seem frozen now in most places but sure, guarantee that if rent is frozen)
12. A big-enough pool of grants or forgivable loans for truly small businesses, and an apparatus that WORKS (see clogged phone lines above) to get them—without gargantuan hoops to jump through. On the current path, 70% (or more) of independent restaurants will shutter forever.
