adam (2019) was a real disappointment to me bc the trailer really sold me that it could be a fun pithy period piece and i love scandal, however it was just like...... super fucking boring, painfully dull, i couldnt drag myself to the end...
i was hoping, like, a narrative about how queerness appeals to straight people and unpacks the potential fragility of cis vs transness and the possibility of choice in how you live & love, something funny and conceptually queer and not woke (willing to be problematic and bitchy)
trans people felt involved in the whole fabric of this movie im not looking it up (that would be boring), yet like, it missed every opportunity presented by its premise (fertile imo) to be interesting and it was awkwardly callous??? like https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😬" title="Grimacing face" aria-label="Emoji: Grimacing face">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="💧" title="Droplet" aria-label="Emoji: Droplet"> levels
wondering how you could write and produce an entire film without it ever once occurring to anybody that the protagonist needed to be likeable, or interesting in some way, or have some kind of personalised interiority
this is very much just a "this was a terribly written, awkward, miserable movie and im disappointed" comment. i wanted something sloppy but fun like G.B.F (2013) or Camp (2003) but set in 2006 and about trans people... thats all i want https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😔" title="Pensive face" aria-label="Emoji: Pensive face">
