So, today should have been a big day: the release of the first comic book I’d written for DC’s Sandman Universe line, Books of Magic #19
So much fabulous work has gone into this, from @tomfowlerbug, @CraigTaillefer, @marissadraws, Todd Klein, @ConroyForReal and Maggie Howell. And look at that cover by Kai Carpenter.
Obviously the current situation with comic books and retailers and distribution is what it is, and there’s nothing can be done about it. But I’m hopeful this issue and the subsequent ones I’ve written will be in your hands sooner rather than later.
DC is already bringing out selected titles from next week, so fingers crossed the comics industry gets back to full strength in short order
It’s funny, it was only at the end of December that I got the Books of Magic gig, initially for a two-parter. This is the first part; Tim and a new friend, Izzy, try to go to the Glastonbury Festival but end up somewhere else. I delivered the script in early January.
Couldn’t have guessed then that not only would the Glastonbury Festival be cancelled, but the comic wouldn’t see the light of day as scheduled on April 22.
On the strength of the scripts for this story I got more Books of Magic work. A three-parter that wraps up a major plot point from the very start of this by @neilhimself decades ago.
Despite what you might have read anywhere, work has been going on with all of these issues and the art is absolutely phenomenal. Can’t wait for you to see it. And fingers crossed that will be soon. In the meantime, support your local comic shop as best as you can.
