INFO THREAD:
Mumble rap doesn’t exist. I know it sounds crazy, but it isn’t actually a real thing. It’s a term used by a lot older generation rappers, “lyrical” rappers and their fans, and just oldheads. “Mumble rap” (still not real) fits into the trap sub genre

People started to call it mumble rap for rappers like future and desiigner (don’t count him we can’t understand him outside of his songs
). Other rappers who fit into this description were southern rappers than had deeper accents that lead to some not being able to understand

Soon after, these “real rap” fans grew into calling every single rapper who wasn’t a lyrical miracle spiritual individual a mumble rapper. I’ve seen Uzi, Roddy Ricch, Lil Baby and Gunna, Nudy, X and Ski, 21, DaBaby and more under this term when clearly you could understand it all
Besides the rappers on there, people eventually just started calling any rapper who sang over beats or used triplet flows instead of rapping over boombap songs a mumble rapper, which is usually an example of mob mentality, because many of these people haven’t listened to them
A common indicator of these types of people is their hatred of autotune, and their willingness to bring up Gucci Gang in conversations 3 years after its release.
Listening to “real rap” doesn’t mean you get to decide what rap should sound like. If somebody’s rapping a million words a minute I really don’t care because they usually aren’t saying nun when I look the lyrics up and I REALLY can’t understand them
LAST POINT
Rap started over chopped beats and a lot of “hip, hop a hippy” type rapping. I don’t think most “mumble rap” haters would have liked that rap or even know what real rap is (or where it began). So for the rest of the year, please check your local oldhead
