/ @crispinhunt @MrTomGray some nuance I'm worried is not clear from #brokenrecord messaging: Recording artists who own their copyright and are successfully marketing their music and the labels who control copyrights and are successfully marketing music ARE making money. Lots.
/ Streaming frankly has SAVED the recordings business (for now). As for 15 years it was not possible to make money from recordings, while people DL'd for free. But there are fatal inequalities in the system which deny certain parties from being able to make a living.
/ And if these other parties can't make a living... no more music biz in the long run. So the system is flawed and inequitable and needs to support the full spectrum of contributors (songwriters, musicians) in order for it to be sustainable as a solution for the whole business.
/ But... And what I am not seeing come across clearly is that this is not about getting every artist who has 50,000 (or whatever arbitrary figure people pick) plays on Spotify a living wage. That is not feasible or desirable. Nor should we go back to Napster/PirateBay.
/ I feel clarity is needed so we can focus on where the issues really are. Posting Spotify's per stream pay out with no context, doesn't necessarily reflect the nuances of the landscape. There is money to be made. It's how it's distributed. Am I missing something?
