Hello everyone, Louise here. I'm going to be taking over the twitter account for the next hour or so, for today's #StillSeeingThings! We're working with @AncientHouseMus today, so make sure you're following both accounts!
I will be trying my best to retweet everything onto this timeline, too, as @AncientHouseMus share some of their collections and the fascinating women they tell the stories of! I'm particularly excited about this, as, if you know me, you know I love museums! And women's history!
First up, we're getting an introduction to all of the staff, and to the museum itself! I think this is a lovely idea, so if any of you want to introduce yourselves too, please feel free! #StillSeeingThings https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252922802824495108?s=20
This video briefly tells the story of Sophia Duleep Singh, and her role in the Women's Social and Political Union. #StillSeeingThings https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252923882866122752?s=20
The next tweet from @AncientHouseMus involves some fun for all of us whilst we're stuck at home! I really like this way of engaging people with collections! And who doesn't like some colouring in?! (I know what i'll be doing later) #StillSeeingThings https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252926414799745026?s=20
Does anyone else have creative examples of engaging people with women's history, like this? Please let us know! #StillSeeingThings
If anyone does decide to colour in the above images of Sophia, please do share and tag both ourselves and @AncientHouseMus - I think we'd all like to see the end results! #StillSeeingThings
The next project being shared over @AncientHouseMus shows how exciting working with digital can be, and what sort of cool things you can achieve with it! It's especially relevant at this time, when a lot more is having to be done online: https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252928931164020736?s=20 #StillSeeingThings
I think everyone should take a couple of minutes to have a look over the blog, and the video at the end of it, and share any thoughts you have! #StillSeeingThings
And whilst you're all doing that, here is one way in which GWL gets creative with their collections and draws inspiration from them - making them relevant to today: #StillSeeingThings https://twitter.com/GabrielleGWL/status/1252929855940898816?s=20
Are many of you managing to stay creative at home? Or have some of you finally found the time to take up that craft project you've been putting off? Please share your stories (and examples!) below #StillSeeingThings
Linked to creativity and making things, is rehabilitation and convalescing for injured #ww1 soldiers. During this conflict, Sophia became a nurse and helped those who had been wounded. The video below explains a little more: https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252930179753742337?s=20 #StillSeeingThings
And just look at this wonderful mirror from @AncientHouseMus! I think this is such a lovely object, especially as it's something so normal, in many ways.

Does anyone here have any favourite objects in their collections, which relate to women's history? Or anything they've seen at an exhibition or in a museum/gallery? Or maybe you have something in your own family history? #StillSeeingThings
As this tweet says, Catherine Duleep Singh is often overshadowed by her more famous sister. This tweeter has to ashamedly admit that she has never heard of Catherine before this... 😅 Watch the video below to find out about her! https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252934243640098818?s=20 #StillSeeingThings
Sorry, nearly missed this tweet, and it would have been a real shame if I had! I'm really enjoying seeing the different means of public engagement that @AncientHouseMus utilise! For example, here's a stand-up night #StillSeeingThings https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252936470496776192?s=20
They also have a teenage history club ( @AHTeenHC) which I do love to see happening in heritage and cultural institutions! Can you tell us a bit more about this, please? #StillSeeingThings
Another exciting form of public engagement that happened was this play, looking at Sophia and Catherine. For it, they worked with local schools. I really hope it was well received?! https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252938973640523776?s=20 #StillSeeingThings
Sticking with #ww1, the next video tells us about Florrie Clarke and the work she did during this conflict. Do any of you have any great women and war work stories to tell us, too? https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252941504894689280?s=20 #StillSeeingThings
Linked to Florrie's story, the museum also holds this lovely note, wishing her all the best in her role. #StillSeeingThings https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252944058651156480?s=20
And just incase any of you fancy giving town crying a shot, @AncientHouseMus have even got you covered, with this: https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252945341596479488?s=20 #StillSeeingThings
I also love that the current town crier has been engaging with the museum! Do many places still have town criers....? https://twitter.com/AncientHouseMus/status/1252946583634808836?s=20 #StillSeeingThings
Does anyone else have any stories of female town criers? I'm now kind of interested in this... #StillSeeingThings
