Day 22 of @NavigatorSurvey tracking poll: The political fallout for the protests at state capitols lies squarely with those who are egging them on. The American people support the Governors’ stay-at-home orders by a landslide: 77% support them and just 14% support the protesters.
And as the president shows blames, distracts, and sympathizes with those who are flaunting these widely supported guidelines, his approval rating on the pandemic continues to fall.
The president can't just lie over this crisis as too many have first-hand experience. Across the 7,749 interviews we've conducted since Mar. 20: Those who know someone infected give worse ratings. Its not just a "where the disease is" thing is as the trend holds w/ Indies & GOP.
The number of people with first-hand experience with the crisis is astounding -- 30% know someone who has been infected. The right wing is used to rallying their side to 90%+ support levels on their culture wars, but that's hard when 27% of FOX News watchers know someone too.
Meanwhile, the economic worries are obviously very real as well with the recession a top worry along with the big health concerns. But, as we'll show in tomorrow's release of new questions, you can't solve the economic concerns without solving the health concerns.
Last week, we showed how popular the economic relief bills were, but the public is still clamoring for more action on the economy.
Still, there are concerns that Trump's economic response to the pandemic is favoring the wealthy over middle and working class people.
Full report here. We've got a bunch of new questions to share tomorrow about where Americans are on whether and how to begin to re-open the country (hint: Trump is out of touch): https://navigatorresearch.org/navigating-coronavirus/
