BREAKING Confirmed and suspected coronavirus deaths in Scotland rose by 651 to 1616 between 13th and 19th April, according to figures just published by the National Records of Scotland. That's an average of 93 deaths per day.
A third (537) of all confirmed or suspected Covid-19 deaths in Scotland have been in care homes, according to @NatRecordsScot. Most (910 or 56%) were in hospitals, with a further 169 at home or in other locations.
In the week which ended on Sunday, there were reportedly 844 more deaths in Scotland than the five-year average. The vast majority (637) were linked to Covid-19 but there were also 38 'extra' cancer deaths and 83 'extra' dementia/Alzheimer's deaths.
NRS says the figure of 651 deaths related to Covid-19 for 13th to 19th April was up 41 on the previous week. It appears figures for the preceding two weeks have been revised up slightly.
Almost three quarters (74%) of all deaths involving Covid-19 to date were of people aged 75 and over but there have been ten deaths in the 15-44 age range; 154 deaths in the 45-64 range; and 263 deaths in the 65-74 range.
Greater Glasgow and Clyde remains the area of Scotland worst-affected by the pandemic, with a death rate of 4.4 per 10,000 followed by 3.5 per 10,000 for Lanarkshire, 3.3 per 10,000 for the Borders and 3.2 per 10,000 for Ayrshire and Arran.
