The fact that a Sunni Muslim family has been babysitting the keys to the Holy Sepulcher for 1400 years to reduce fistfights among monks fascinates and delights me. https://twitter.com/DavidVidecette/status/1246785553900724224
Like how did this even start? "Pardon me sir but the monks can't be trusted to be adults about one of the holiest sites in their religion, do you think you could help"
Does the guy with the keys ever get the urge to yell that if the monks don't knock it off he's turning this tomb around and nobody gets to go to Disneyland?
How do you explain this job to your kid who's going to inherit it? "Monks get weird around the tomb, kid, so they can't have keys. DO NOT EVER LET THEM HAVE THE KEYS."
Like the best part of that video is the look on the key holder's face, which is exactly the look I would expect from a man whose family has been babysitting a bunch of belligerent monks for 1400 years.
