/20 It’s been a year since I started Noob Heavy and I couldn’t have asked for a better start. I was off grid prior, so it has been life changing. I’ve had a lot of cool opportunities and worked with awesome people. Here’s a thread with highlights, lowlights and special mentions
/20 40k hits to the site 1st year. I don’t know what that means but it’s way more than I expected. @zax was the first team member to join and it snowballed into a fantastic group of people. Shout out to the team @Sym246 @Tchyort1077 @destroyerhands @AbyssAeons @HardAlbumReview
/20 I started PR in November when @AbyssAeons offered my first job. I’ll always be thankful to them for that push which has now led me down a career path I’m very happy to be doing. I’ve since worked with bands like @eternalrestband @WhiteCrone L’homme Absurde, Scissorfight+more
/20 Interviews! It starts with reviews but the interaction became so much more intense over the year. My first ever interview was a failure, it was via email with Mike Browning from Nocturnus. Ghosted me because I asked a double question after being instructed not to. Lol.
/20 Interview with stoner metal duo @GoldenCore_band from Norway. I enjoyed their latest album a lot and they’re just fun people. One a lot of people might have missed at the time. https://noobheavy.com/2019/12/28/goldencoreinterview/">https://noobheavy.com/2019/12/2...
/20 The biggest email interview I did was this bucket list moment where I interviewed one of my personal metal idols, Tommy Rogers from @btbamofficial for their special Aus tour that happened back in Feb, right on the heels of lockdown. https://noobheavy.com/2020/02/04/interview-with-between-the-buried-and-me/">https://noobheavy.com/2020/02/0...
/20 @ZRRtweets first interview, with anti fascist folk black metal band Exulansis. He has an interview coming up soon with Benighted which is very exciting. https://noobheavy.com/2020/02/11/interview-exulansis/">https://noobheavy.com/2020/02/1...
/20 I first got pushed into the realm of phone interviews with a transcription when I interviewed Brendan Auld from Snorlax and Descent. He preferred the more organic method of a chat, as Aussie guys tend to do. I was very happy with the result. https://noobheavy.com/2020/01/31/interview-brendan-auld-2020/">https://noobheavy.com/2020/01/3...
/20 I’ve since done a few phoners. Including Trevor from BDM and Jonas from Katatonia. Two amazing opportunities. I’d love to just keep interviewing titans of metal. I started my own metal interview podcast from this growing comfort and motivation. https://open.spotify.com/show/7jCUKJkqaOkC7SRzRjqbNu">https://open.spotify.com/show/7jCU...
/20 Reviews… I experimented with a lot of formats and listened to a lot of albums. So did my team. I found some of my favorite albums through their reviews. Here’s a handful of my favorites.
/20 I discovered @hellrippermetal close to this time last year which has been an awesome ride since, very excited to see what James will keep doing now on Peaceville Records. https://noobheavy.com/2019/06/06/review-hellripper-black-arts-alchemy-ep-9/">https://noobheavy.com/2019/06/0...
/20 That time when I reviewed all three Archivist albums using my own long winded interpretations of theme and lyrics, then the band told me that on their Facebook page is a detailed breakdown of the themes, mine not incl. It was an emotional day lol https://noobheavy.com/2019/06/29/review-archivist-triumvirate-10/">https://noobheavy.com/2019/06/2...
/20 @ZRRtweets first review on the site. Also turned out to be one of my top albums of last year, if you haven’t heard it then I recommend it. It makes a strong case for Australian black metal. Don’t let the war themes spook you too much. https://noobheavy.com/2019/07/10/zax-record-review-advent-sorrow-kali-yuga-crown-8-5/">https://noobheavy.com/2019/07/1...
/20 Another one Zax introduced me to. @callousdaoboys has been in healthy rotation for me since this was posted and you’ll hopefully hear them on an upcoming podcast episode too where we will see how good at math they really are. https://noobheavy.com/2019/09/06/zax-record-review-the-callous-daoboys-die-on-mars-9/">https://noobheavy.com/2019/09/0...
/20 The first time I got asked to do a track/video premier. I don’t know if I did that, at least not by the standards I’d consider now. It’s definitely more of a review. Spewing I missed this one on cassette. https://noobheavy.com/2019/09/07/review-giest-swarming-season-8-6/">https://noobheavy.com/2019/09/0...
/20 Mass has really in depth reviews. He lives in Iran so has limitations, but also he hears way more Euro stuff than I do. This album is a memorable stand out. His reviews are informative about history, philosophy. He is an educator by profession. https://noobheavy.com/2019/10/06/review-insomnium-heart-like-a-grave-9-6/">https://noobheavy.com/2019/10/0...
/20 The Number Twelve came back with a new LP late last year that is a must listen. I’ll be talking to Michael the drummer next week for an upcoming podcast episode. Mathcore themed, well... maths themed. https://noobheavy.com/2020/02/04/album-review-the-number-twelve-looks-like-you-wild-gods-9-mathcore/">https://noobheavy.com/2020/02/0...
/20 @AbyssAeons started doing metal history articles on the site which are really cool, love the format. They really give you a sense of the time with a lot of context about the era. So far he’s covered albums from My Dying Bride, Sabbat and Cemetary. https://noobheavy.com/metalredux/ ">https://noobheavy.com/metalredu...
/20 @Sym246 has been a powerful addition to the team with news posts. Here’s one of the most popular ones, The Hu. Very divisive topic lol https://noobheavy.com/2020/04/14/mongolian-hunnu-rock-band-the-hu-release-new-video-for-wolf-totem-feat-jacoby-shaddix-papa-roach/">https://noobheavy.com/2020/04/1...
/20 anyway spam complete, thanks to everyone who has supported us with out projects and I& #39;m looking forward to developing many more.
