It's Earth Day. Here's an Earth Day thread. I'll be honest, I've been struggling to process where my Environmental worries fit alongside everything else. I'm sure everyone else has too. How does it all fit inside this weird world?
In a sense trying to push on with Environmental commitment for our businesses has almost been paused alongside everything else while we get into the swing of working in a very new way.
And it would be easy for companies to think of all these changes to our working life - less travel, less cars, less printing and less energy associated with big old buildings as a win for the Environment, at least a short term one.
But it's important I think to consider that once we all go back to work we need to push further from where we were previously. And we should think about how we use this time to push our Environmental plans to the next phase.
So we need to keep working at it. For now I'd urge everyone to take pride in what might be achieved in the short term but to recognise it as a starting point. If you're anything like me you're likely wasting far less food than usual and buying far less STUFF. It's good.
And think about the really positive things from our temporary reality - less pollution and less noise; more walking and cycling; stronger community bonds and more time to focus on our own health and wellbeing.
When you're out for a walk and you're trying to avoid other folk on the pavement consider that it might be nice to walk in the middle of the road all the time. Or to hear the birds above the cars all the time.
And that's kinda my Earth Day preaching. Look after yourselves. I'll be working on the @BelmontFh @Filmhouse and @edfilmfest Environmental plans over the next few weeks. If anyone wants to chat about them in any context let me know.
