I actually didn’t realise so many people were unaware of PrEP. I’ll mention it and they’ll be like “oh you mean PEP?” I’m like, no. PrEP: pre-exposure prophylaxis, pills that can be taken by a HIV- person which prevents exposure to HIV virus if taken before sex with HIV+ person
Also interesting that the UK Dept. of Health have sat on this for years; only now approving it in England. Is it a coincidence that they’ve prioritised it amidst #COVID19? A few months ago there was uncertainty bc of funding but this has been miraculously solved during a pandemic
Anyway I’m interested to see how PrEP can become mainstreamed in parts of Africa. For instance, Uganda has identified high risk HIV populations as sex workers, MSM, adolescents etc. but I feel stigma and discrimination won’t let this drug be great. https://www.prepwatch.org/country/uganda/
