I'm on the panel for 4 remote interviews today for a role @CitizensAdvice in the Advice & Advocacy directorate - first time doing online interviews, so excited to see how it all pans out! Just hoping for no reverberating echo of my own voice when it's my turn to ask questions!
Two down - they’ve gone really well! We’re using Google Meet links to dial in & setting expectations that it’s ok to need a break, if WiFi cuts out it’s not a problem / people won’t be ‘marked down’, that we’ll be on mute and typing notes on other screens but WILL be listening...
We’re also being really proactive in using each other’s names and handing over to the next panel member to ask their questions. We’ve flagged the chat function as an alternative option if there any connectivity issues or if candidates have questions while the panel is speaking...
Ok, so after the final two for today, my immediate reflections were: 1) include advice in the invites we send to candidates on where/how to set up their laptop so we can see them clearly - e.g. not directly in front of a window (makes the screen dark and their faces hard to see)
3) We were using a Google Meet extension which allows you to display people in a 'grid view' but I'm not sure how that looks on mobile (will check with panel members tomorrow) and whether the candidate could only see one of our faces the whole time or not...
