1/Citizens collective statement on arrest of attorney-at-law Hejaaz Hizbullah acknowledges need to conduct thorough investigations into any alleged offence but says it appears detainee has been denied due process rights. He/his family/lawyer not informed of reason for arrest.
2/ Notes Mr Hizbullah has not been produced before a magistrate, to which he is entitled as per SL Constitution & states it is unclear under which law he is detained. If under PTA has to be produced before magistrate within 72 hours or detention order has to be issued.
3/If not produced before a magistrate within a reasonable time or DO not issued then could constitute a violation of Art 13 of the SL Constitution. States it is cause for concern that he was not allowed to meet his lawyer as it is an important part of right to due process.
